Everyone's been doing their Roundup Posts, so here's mine, rounding up all the fanvids I made this year.

January

Rat in a Cage (House) - my last House vid. I'm really not sure I'm going to make anymore. I've started a few and never finished them. I've been exploring different film sources this year in my fanvids, although House is the unfortunately the only fandom I have a built-in audience for. Oh, well. I was very happy with this video though -- lots of fairly quick cuts, and I liked the second verse with the line, "Can you fake it?" showing everybody doing their thing. And the line, "What do you want? I want a change. And what do you got, when you feel the same?" about the ketamine. And incorporating Stacy, Wilson, Cameron and Cuddy.

February

Immerse Your Soul (Lord of the Rings) - I said I'd do it, and I did it. It didn't turn out as well as I'd imagined it, but oh well. I need to do more LOTR stuff in the future.

March

Everlong (Phantom of the Opera) - See, I wanted to cover all my old fandoms, before House came along. Phantom was a big one for me, back in the day.

The Meaning of Life?! (House) - Oh, wait! "Rat in a Cage" wasn't my last House vid -- there was this. A compilation of scenes and dialogue concerning god and religion and existential crises from House. Not actaully a songvid.

May

To the Dead (Star Wars) - Finally I got "Star Wars" on my computer. I'd been wanting to make Star Wars videos for a long time. Star Wars fanvids were the first fanvids I ever stumbled upon. At first, I hadn't been sure what to make of the whole thing, but I quickly got into it. [livejournal.com profile] di_br's vid "Missing" about Anakin and Obi-Wan (and Anakin's mom and Qui-Gon) was I think the first time I really appreciated it and thought it was something I'd want to do. It's like writing an essay about what you love, visually explaining your interpretation of characters and their relationships and developments and the themes you can draw from that, etc. So anyway, I finally made a Star Wars video, and I think it's ok. Not great.

June

There There (multi-fandom) - an ode to fantastical obsessions and discontentment. I want to try the same idea to another song at some point ("Imaginations from the Other Side" by Blind Guardian).

July

A Different Light (Star Wars) - your typical Anakin-goes-bad vid. It's alright. I'd wanted to do it for a long time.

August

Mad World (Dead Poets Society) - sad, angsty DPS vid. Decided to do it out of nowhere one day, just wanting to vid something. I'm quite happy with the outcome.

September (a prolific month)

No Rain (Little Miss Sunshine) - This came out pretty well. Too bad YouTube made me take it down. You can still download it though. Just ask if you want a link.

Parting of the Sensory (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) - [livejournal.com profile] elynittria gave me a copy of this movie because she's an awesome, awesome human being. I don't think my video lived up to that awesomeness, but I'm fairly satisfied with it. Got across what I wanted to get across, I think, and the editing is alright. The song was sort of hard to vid, being sort of slow and plodding and whimsical most of the way through, but I really enjoy it and thought it fit the movie/play well.

This Time Imperfect (Star Wars) - another Anakin-goes-bad video. Except, focusing more on his childhood and his emotional/psychological issues. I like this song a lot and I feel ok about the outcome of the video. There's things that could be touched up, but. Oh, well.

Let Go (RENT) - I'm very happy with how this came out. There's really not much I'd change about it, except that I can envision an alternative ending. But yeah. I like this one.

October

Song to Say Goodbye (Star Wars) - Again, it's... Anakin turning evil. But from Obi-Wan's point of view this time. He is sad and angry, regretful and resentful. Editing-wise, this is possibly my best Star Wars fanvid.

November

What It Is To Burn (Star Wars) - more evil Anakin, with a focus on Padme this time and how his obsession with her fed into the whole situation. I don't even like this song, really, but I remembered it from back in the day when I went to concerts with bands like this (Finch) and couldn't help thinking how much it fit Anakin.

One and the Same (Star Wars) - not the greatest vid, because the song is a hard one to work with, and because I didn't actually have the footage I needed (so I took some off YouTube, from people who had posted entire scenes of the old trilogy). But I really like the idea behind it and what it conveys, however effectively.

Becoming Insane (Fight Club) - I'm proud of this one. I think it's badass. There are some iffy areas where I'd like to go back and touch it up a little bit, but. Whatever.

THE END!

Overall, I think the videos I made this year were much more sophisticated than last year's batch. I branched out to other things, wanting to kind of make one summing up video for many of my favorite films, and I think I did most of those justice. The Star Wars vids have been a little weak, maybe, and I've had this mental block about House, but other than that... Yay vidding!

And since there are only two (ish) of them, I might as well round up my fanfics in the same post:

March
This was when I took up playing John House in RPG at [livejournal.com profile] semper_fi_house which led to a couple of ficlets as prompt-responses, the first of which was...

Disappointments, a little rant about House from John. This is my interpretation John and his relationship with House, his rationalizations for the abuse, while only alluding to what that entailed.

Those Who Love - Drabble about House's parents, set shortly after "Daddy's Boy" when they're settled in at their hotel in Paris. Short, cheasy and pointless, written because of a prompt.

April

Innocence - another prompt response at [livejournal.com profile] semper_fi_house, this time set way in the past when House was about six months old. Just a short vignette, but I like it. I'm sure it came to mind because at that time I was actually spending a lot of time with a six-month-old.

On Perseverance, Self-Doubt and Duty -- stupid monologue from John, in response to a prompt. Basically just me trying to hash out his character a little more and figure out what he thought about things.

Home (This House Is Not) - yet another prompt response, but this one turned out pretty long and actually had some semblance of a beginning, middle and end, so I went ahead and pimped it to the comms a little. It was well-received which made me happy, and I was proud of it at the time, but really it's nothing wonderful.

Elf of the Cave, Elf of the Spray -- this was for the [livejournal.com profile] remix_redux and I'm very proud of it. It's a Lord of the Rings/Silmarillion fic, about Elrond and his twin brother. I like it.

That's basically it, aside from the role-playing I did over the next few months. Which I might as well round up here too.

I didn't write anymore for John really, except that I became really active in the RPG community [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_hocus -- here is a summary of what John did there: fights with his son, encounters with Winchesters and various others, and a magical regression to childhood. He also did some stuff at [livejournal.com profile] dark_desert_hwy, which you can read here.

Over the next several months I started taking on various other characters at [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_hocus, and there are some links to those various interactions here. I particularly recommend Agent Smith and Neil Perry's introductions to Hogwarts.

I've stopped RPing now, but I really enjoyed the time I spent doing it.

OK AND THAT'S THE REAL END.
