Vid Roundup

Alright. A couple people suggested I do a roundup of my fanvids for 2006. So, here it is (along with unnecessary rambling):

March
It's Been a While
This was my first fanvid ever. I remember being extremely excited about it and not being able to stop myself from explaining my ideas for it to my firend Meg in math class - I also spent math class writing down all the lyrics to the song in my notebook and making notes about which shots to use where. It came out ok, I think. I was obviously new to vidding, but people seem to enjoy it. I'm fond of it. It's a good song for just explaining House's situation.

April
Comfortably Numb
I thought this song was great for House, because I think he'd like the song, and because of the creepy doctor-ness of the verses, and the zoned out peace of the chorus. I enjoy it, though it's a little slow. And long (though I cut it off early - the song goes on for another two minutes).

May

Motivation
A more light-hearted House-centric vid. He's an apathetic, punk Sum41-ish heart deep down. Or, on the surface, actually. Just a fun little vid. Could have been better and more fun if I'd picked up the pace but. Ah, well.

Losing My Religion
I'm really rather proud of this one. I had to be more creative about finding shots, since it wasn't just about House brooding, but about Chase, his father, his desire for approval from House, and his desire (but inability) to believe in God. Faster pace too. My first vid with the correct aspect ratio!

A Broken Hallelujah
Again, I'm pretty proud of this. I got a lot of comments from people saying that they hadn't ever liked House/Stacy, but that they did like my video, which was cool. This song gets over-used probably, but I felt like I made good use of it... Shrug.

June
no vids!

August
Ouch
The most pointless thing ever. I basically just wanted to amuse myself by lining up all the shots of House getting punched, knocked over, etc. (If you listen to the background music to this, you'll hear a song that I plan on possibly making into a full vid some day in the future.)

Something in the Way
More brooding House. This time focusing more on "No Reason" and House's existential crisis and desire to have meaning in his life. It doesn't end on a hopeful note though - it's just depressing all the way through: House feels empty, unablize to emphatize or connect, guilty, isolated, thinks everything is pointless... Yeah. This vid has it's moments, but again. Could be better. Someone called it "atmospheric" which I liked.

September
Everybody Understands
Sometimes I feel irriated on House's behalf when everyone seems to constantly be picking him apart and analyzing him and giving him advice or doing things "for his own good." And so this video was made. It was nicely timed in that I finished it just after "Meaning" aired, which fueled the frustration I had already been feeling there. I constantly change my mind about whether or not I like this one. I think it's ok. At one point, I edited it a little bit and saved the new version, but that version isn't on YouTube.

Crippled and Cracked
This one didn't get many comments, probably because I didn't pimp it anywhere. I didn't feel I could, since House is pretty much the only character in it. It's just House, his leg, his pain and his Vicodin. And Radiohead. I like this one.

October
Center of the World
In which I use House as a vehicle to go over the themes of death and the afterlife and stuff. This is alright, not wonderful. Again, it was Gen, so no one ever really saw it on LJ.

Where Did I Go Wrong? (previously titled "How to Save a Life")
I changed the title recently because there are too many videos of this song with the same name. And someone made another H/W vid to it couple weeks ago (and I'm not even talking about [livejournal.com profile] di_br's, which is excellent - a third one, and that's in additon to the H/Stacy and H/Cuddy ones that are already in existence). Anyway, this one is probably my most popular vid. (Followed by "It's Been a While" and "Hallelujah.") Because everyone loves House and Wilson's stupid, screwed up friendship, come on. I heard this song one day and couldn't help thinking of Wilson and House - however, this was before Wilson could really say "I lost a friend" about House, hence, the brother came into the picture. And when I thought of Ethan Hawke, I got so excited that I had to start right away. I knew that my roommate had a copy of "Dead Poets Society" somewhere in her desk, so I found it and ripped it. First time - I felt cool. Anyway, I am proud of this one.

November
Where Soul Meets Body
Yay for more ripping DVD's. My first non-House video! For a little while there, I debated making this a really cool, multi-fandom vid - including scenes from Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Peter Pan. A fantasty fest. But ripping HP and LotR would take too long for my patience (and I don't even own Peter Pan). So it was just Narnia. This video makes me happy.

The World You Love
I'm really proud of this one. I wanted this song to be a Dead Poetes Society video, like, six months ago. And now I was finally able to do it. It was surprisingly easy to do - I didn't plan it out that much, just kept going and knowing what shot I wanted next. This one also makes me happy.

December
Epiphany
A rehashing of "Comfortably Numb" and "Something in the Way." Introspective House. I hadn't heard this song in a while - and then I did - and then I thought of House. And so I made this. It was also partly wish-fulfillment, because I really wanted House to show some growth and remorse for how he's been acting lately. I also did it because I was stuck halfway through "Pain." Did it pretty quickly. I like this, mostly.

Pain
This didn't turn out nearly as well as I wanted it too. Although I did get a comment from one person claiming that they thought it was the best of mine yet. Shrug. It's a subjective thing, I guess. I started out with fast clips, and then lost momentum, ran out of ideas. You know, I started working on this before my Dead Poets Society video. It took me that long to finish it. Not because I was working hard, but because I had the vidding equivalent of writer's block.

My December
Suddenly had the urge to vid this song, what with the angst surrounding the House Christmas episode. I enjoyed this one.

Plans for 2007
I don't think I could stop vidding for long if I tried. I know I don't rank in the elite of vidders - my stuff isn't that great, but I love doing it and I make these vids mostly for myself. I enjoy them. I've always liked applying songs to characters, and this is a really fun way to convey some feelings and ideas about them and through them. So, yeah, there'll be more vids, I'm sure. Here's what's brewing:

"Bullet with Butterfly Wings" by Smashing Pumpkins: expect yet another brooding, nihilistic House video. However, this one will be fast. And cool. I'm 1 minute, 40 seconds into it, and I'm absurdly pleased with it so far.

"Fat Lip" by Sum41. A fun House vid for a change.

"Street Spirit (Fade Out)" by Radiohead. Who knows if I'll really do this, but picturing it vaguely in my head, it looks wonderful. I'd use Lord of the Rings. It would be hypnotic and inspiring, I tell you! lol

In conclusion, I am very happy to have found this new, wonderful waste of time. Thanks to everyone who commented along the way, and especially thanks to [livejournal.com profile] daasgrrl who encouraged me from the start and offered some technical advice. :)

Wow. She writes gorgeous fic, she makes awesome fan-vids--she's a real fandom Renaissance woman. :-)

I am very happy to have found this new, wonderful waste of time.

I think a lot of fandom would be saying they were very happy you found fanvidding too. Including me.

Heh. Thanks. It's good to know I'm not the only one enjoying them. :)

Wow, you have done a lot of vids. I remember I liked your vids from the beginning *g*. The DPS one and Hallelujah are obviously my faves. I do have a soft spot for Losing My Religion, too. I love the song, and the way it summarises Chase.

Didn't you do Mad World? Damn, I really thought that one was yours...

Glad you're doing more *g*

Heh, I know, they pile up. I seem to be vidding compulsively. Then again, someone on my f-list recently celebrated reaching her 100th vid, lol.

I think I may have put in a suggestion for Mad World a long time ago, before I started vidding myself. I do like the song a lot. There might be two House vids to it out there... The more recent one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn3bbrR3Xds) was done by [livejournal.com profile] panda_chibi and it's very good.

House is the first fandom I really discovered vidding. And between you and [livejournal.com profile] daasgrrl I finally get it.

More to go and see! Woohoo!

(I've started thinking in vids, now, which is stupid because I don't have the first idea of what I need to start.)

Hee! They are fun. I started thinking in vidding before actaully doing it for a while, which was quite frustrating. But then it turned out to be easier than I thought. I mean, the people who make really amazing vids and stuff put a lot of work into it, and most of them have good programs and stuff too. But if you have a PC, there's a thing called "Windows Movie Maker" that comes with the computer, and you can upload video and audio files to it. You probably know about the House episode downloading communities I'm sure, so. From there, it's easy. You should give it a try, if you want to!

I discovered vidding with Star Wars. At first I was like "wtf?! People do this?" It seemed bizarre at first, but the first vid I saw that really worked for me, where I said, "Ok, awesome, I want to do this too," was Missing (http://www.angelfire.com/space2/starwarsscenes2/) by [livejournal.com profile] di_br - it's extremely well done, and also says something really effectively about Obi-Wan and Anakin and their situation, where Obi-Wan is sort of like an older sibling forced into a father role...

So yeah, I am happy I've discovered the joy of vidding and watching vids.

Thanks.
I'm on a Mac. But I reckon the default Movie program should work just as easily.

And now I'm actualy going to try. *blinks*

Hello. :-)

I was wondering if you'd be willing to file-upload your My December vid? I had barely seen it at YouTube, and LOVE it, and didn't have a chance to grab it before someone got snotty about music rights (I'm guessing).

I had left a message at YouTube, but then I was reading through some of [livejournal.com profile] pwcorgigirl's fic, and found a response from you, and came over here. (And I'm thrilled I did--I can't *wait* to peruse the rest of the stuff you've posted here!)

Ah, cool. [livejournal.com profile] pwcorgigirl is great, isn't she?

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I've gotten really bad about not responding to messages immediately and then sometimes forgetting to go back to them. Gah.

But I'm glad you found me here and messaged me. Here's a download link for the vid.

A bunch of my stuff's been being flagged over there, so I'm going to start uploading more of my stuff to imeem, I think.

Anyway, hi and welcome. :)

Oh, you're awesome! Thank you so much!

Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] pwcorgigirl is fabulous...such high quality, and so much of it! I'm having an amazing time going through her whole catalog.

Now to attempt some vidding of my own....so many ideas, so little skill....I feel like I'm re-inventing the wheel, blindfolded, but whatcha gonna do?
