House/Stacy vid

I, uh, finished that video I mentioned earlier.
Title: A Broken Hallelujah
Song: "Hallelujah" - Rufus Wainwright
Subject: House, House/Stacy... and the piano... and angst
Download: YouSendIt
Watch: YouTube
I hope it's not too maudlin. Just, sometimes there are those moods.
It's a really pretty song and ever since Emily and Lorrae put it on that mix-cd, I haven't been able to stop listening to it, so I had to make a video for it.
Plus it does fit House quite nicely. Allows for lots of piano-playing and brooding. This video probably also was inspired by reading
namasteyoga's recently finished Eight Days, Eight Months (highly recommended). Also from re-reading (heck, let's just turn this into a fic-rec post!) Muse by
pwcorgigirl and Hiding by
sy_dedalus.
It's funny that I for some reason have a big weakness for House/Stacy stuff, when the majority of the fandom cannot stand her. Shrug. I think I just have a thing for angst and backstories in general. Because my other favorite subjects in House fanfiction are probably House and his parents, and Wilson and his brother.
Anyway, I think this might be, of the vids I've done, the one that's come out most like what I hoped it would.

Date: 2006-05-23 06:30 pm (UTC)Stacy does attract strong feelings, but I think it's because House's vulnerability also evokes strong feelings in people. Had she not come along, the bitter, wounded person we see now would not exist. He was aiming for a "live whole or die now" proposition in Three Stories, and what she did assured he'd live but crippled him. He's never gotten over it, and what he does to deal with it, or how he fails to deal with it, have defined him as a character.
That said, she was the great love of his life, and that alone makes her endlessly fascinating.
Thanks for the rec of "Muse." I am honored!

Date: 2006-05-23 09:04 pm (UTC)That's true, but all that is why I don't understand why people hate her so much... Because it's not just a hate, like, the kind of hate people have for villains... I mean, that's part of it, I think - there is a "You hurt House! Be gone!" mentality, although that seems irrational to me because that's part of the story... and it's part of the character. House is the character we know and love, partly because of her. Maybe I'm slightly sadistic - or suffer from some of Cameron and Wilson's issues - but I like seeing House vulnerable, occasionally. In this sense, people hate her, or at least, dislike or are angry at her, as if she were a real person, while still appreciating her as a character and appreciating her part in the House universe.
However, some of the Stacy-hate is just shippers' rivalry. You know: "Oh, no, back off, bitch, he's Cameron's/Wilson's/Cuddy's!" That idea. And that's just plain ridiculous. There are the people who call her botox-face, etc.
Beyond that, though, some people just dislike her existence altogether and avoid any fanworks that deal with her. And that I just don't understand. Because it's a good story, and it's a huge part of House. Shrug. I don't know.
And about the rec, I don't really have a very big or a very fannish f-list, but hopefully someone will check it out! It's a great piece! I was thinking about it as I made this vid, what with all the emphasis on the piano and stuff, and the memories. And that one line, "But you don't really care for music, do you?" reminded me of it.

Date: 2006-05-24 01:13 am (UTC)My personal problem with Stacy is not so much the character, but the actress who played her. I just didn't feel that connection with House that I'd envisaged - Hugh did his very best to convey all the emotion that was there, as amply displayed in your vid, but her lack of facial expression (IMO) drove me insane. I don't have any problems with the decison about House's leg, etc. Other than that, I just avoid her on general principles because it's het, and I've always been about the slash :)

Date: 2006-05-24 02:49 am (UTC)...It's probably for the best. I don't really know what I was talking about. It involved a long explanation of how I became a House fan, and how I feel about friending people, and about my LJ being an annoying one to have on an f-list, and then stuff about Stacy and Sela Ward and... It ended with the phrase, "I still don't have a point." So. It was for the best.
Anyway, I'm glad you friended me back. :)

Date: 2006-05-24 03:49 am (UTC)I did want to add that I was only being lighthearted in my comment about House belonging to Wilson, just in case it wasn't obvious - I really don't care about who ships whom, as long as no-one forces me to read it :)
As you can see, I can get pointless as well... hope it was a good ep for you guys, I'm trying to mostly stay off lj until I can *ahem* see it :)

Date: 2006-05-24 10:55 pm (UTC)Oh, I know, don't worry. Heh.
I don't think I'd call myself a shipper of anything... I'll reaed any ship, as long as it's well-written and in-character. I do prefer canon, generally, which is probably another reason I am a fan of House/Stacy stuff - just because it's canon. I don't want them to get back together or anything, so I wouldn't say I ship them - it's more just that I enjoy fics that deal with House's past, be it with Stacy, or when he and Wilson were younger, or when he was in college, or a kid with his parents, etc.

Date: 2006-05-24 06:37 pm (UTC)Just thought I'd add a random 2 cents about Stacy....I had a big ramble in my head about the lack of emotion she conveyed. (esp. Three Stories) and I came to the conclusion (And I've seen A LOT of Sela Wards work)and she is a great actress...but I think a lot of people think she's (Stacy) "heartless" or "unemotional" because she doesn't do a lot of crying...but if you watch that scene in Three Stories again ("Would you cut off your leg to save my life") yeah..she doesn't cry...but if you listen to her voice and look at her eyes all the emotion is totally there...and IMO her and House are very very strong people...who wouldn't sit there crying..and she's just trying to hold the tears back and so is House. Plus in the scene on the roof in "Need to Know" there is one (brilliant) solitary tear that slips out..and its just beautiful.
Stacy isn't weeping all the time because she's not like that...she's a very strong woman and the character doesn't call for that. It would be odd if her and House both sat crying all the time.
Those fics are awesome... I read them a while ago and I'm glad you share the same view! :)

Date: 2006-05-24 10:47 pm (UTC)Btw, I commented with a yousendit link to the post with that "Good Man" video you were having trouble downloading: here.
And glad you're a fan of those fics too! Namaste, PWCorgigirl and Sy are probably my three top favorite House writers. I discovered their stuff early on in my House obssession - since then I've found a lot of other good ones as I've gotten more and more into the fandom, but they've remained my favorites.
